Red Rose had a contingent of 16 doing the Chester Marathon and 3 doing the metric marathon of 26.2 km. Very warm conditions don’t suit everyone but we had plenty of runners performing well. Duncan Anderson ran an excellent 2.59.12, Alex Venable finished in 3.23.27 followed by Nigel Britton in 3.30.21. Further down the field, Gareth Bell achieved 3.48.13 with Shane Cliffe next, pleased with 3.49.09. Andy Hale was well inside 4 hours with 3.56.01. As the field spread out, most of our runners must have needed to pace their own efforts which can be a difficult task, so all the times here are hard earned. Jonathon Gore secured a time of 4.10.22. Gemma Lodge was our first women home in 4.30.22, Gareth Fairey wasn’t far behind in 4.32.21. Margaret Lupton finished in 4.38.09 with Richard Lodge next in 4.42.04. Anthony Hughes worked hard for 4.45.05 followed by Judi and Emily Ingham who teamed up for a time of 4.51.07. Andrea Davison, running her first marathon, finished well inside the 5 hour mark in 4.56.45. Gina Biggs added another marathon finish to her impressive list with a time of 6.20.04.

The metric marathon is still a hard challenge and Steve Witney finished in 1.59.24. Vicky Gore ran 2.36.26 and Louise Walsh 3.10.20.

The Coniston Trail Run gave the runners a muddy welcome. Mike Hall entered the 15 K Challenge and finished well up the field in 9th place in a time of 1.17.18. Chris Brown also had a fast run finishing in 1.20.24. Dave Raynor was impressive with a 1.22.49 finish and Austin Trelfa finished in 1.57.09. Wendy Ward enjoyed the occasion with a time of 2.09.01. In the 10k event Jim McClean was our first finisher in 1.13.35 with David Watson over the line in 1.17.19.

Carole Williams took in the Great Scottish Glasgow Half and knocked an amazing 23 minutes off her previous best time. Ian Waddingham went even further north, travelling to the Glencoe Mountain Marathon. This was a huge challenge with 5500ft of ascent and inhospitable running terrain.

Louise Withnell represented the club at Aintree in the Matalan Merseyside 10k and managed a PB performance of 60.47. At the Burnley Fire 10k Stephen Watson tackled a tough course finishing in 59.06. Jenny Bradley and Kate Clipston ran as a pair at the Great Cumbrian Half Marathon finishing in 2.08.59.

A large team of men, women and juniors turned out for the first cross country fixture of the season, held at Astley Park, Chorley. A course over a mix of surfaces tested the runners. Red Rose ladies were able to field two complete teams in the open category finishing in 22nd and 26th place whilst the men took 6th and 12th place in their open category. Even more success came from the V40 team in 6th place and the V50 team in 2nd. Junior results: Under 11’s Martha Rayner 7.32, Grace Rayner 7.38,Lucie Clipston 8.15, Madison Ritchens 9.21, Eliza Parker 9.59, Tiahna Ritchens 10.17. 7th team out of 10. Jacob Fisher was our only Under 11 boy in 8.09. Under 13’s Girls Daisy Royle 14.47, Sophie Hill 15.01. Under 13’s Boys Luke Duffell 13.43. Under 15 Girls Finty Royle 12.42, in 3rd place only 19 seconds behind the winner.

Red Rose visited 8 different Parkruns and Person Bests were recorded by Lisa Bolton 23.11 at Southport, Alice Hartley 25.11 at Lytham and Peter Withnell 25.10 at Cuerden Valley.
