In the past week our runners have been far and wide. Lee Burton claimed first Red Rose in the Gothenberg Half Marathon, with a time of 2.24.20, celebrating the city’s 400th anniversary.

In very warm conditions, the Edinburgh Marathon saw Iain Mitchell beat the 4 hour barrier in 3.58.20. Mark Gouldthorpe competed and finished in 5.28.48 with Gina Biggs completing yet another marathon distance in 6.06.07. Emily Atkinson was our sole representative in the Half Marathon finishing in a very respectable time of 1.55.15.

The Clogherhead Seaside 10k in Drogheda near Dublin was the weekend destination for a few of our runners. Ben Donoghue ran 39.53 to finish in 19th place. Paula Plowman finished second in the F50 group, 4 seconds behind the winner. John Plowman ran 54.12 and Martin Foley finished in 57.08.

Philip Davidson continued his quest of representing Red Rose at the Burnley and Pendle series with a time of 44.44 at the Burnley Lions 10k, a tough two lap course in Colne.

On a flatter, swift 5k course at the Catforth Canter, great times were achieved with Richard Maughan finishing in 18.42 just holding off Gary Corcoran who ran a PB of 18.48. Ben Smithers finished in 22.43 with Steve Worswick and Jo Worswick posting great times of 23.41 and 27.20.

The Hangman’s Noose 10k competition, held in Lancaster, received handsome medals depicting the town’s castle. Running as a pair, Tracey Alami and Karen Bishop enjoyed the event finishing in 67.03. Nikki Bentley battled a train collision (the train collided with a sign!) and started 25 minutes late, with an official time of 1.38.13,

The Mast Race is a 10k chip timed multi terrain run (4.2 mile road 2 mile fell) on an out and back course (first 5k uphill last 5k downhill).It starts from Smithills School to the summit of Winter Hill, to the Mast and back. Over 30 Red Rose runners took part.
