Harrock Hill Fell Race is a mid week fixture which has become very popular with Red Rose. Dan Hughes came away with a box of vegetables for his 36.06 finish and Sue Austin earned a prize with FV55 series win. Sue Tonge was another veg box winner with 58.45 for the FV60 prize. Other finishers: Matt Holmes 38.13, John Naylor 41.15, Christopher Bridge 44.17, Andy Birkbeck 44.46, Nicola Hughes 46.08 , Catherine Karn 62.14, Stu Cann, Jenny Fairclough, Lynn Melvin, Sue Austin and John Wiseman all finished on 69.33.

Michael Coupland aas the sole RRRR representative at Thursday night’s Media City 10k, a 4-lap course around Salford Quays taking in two bridges, the Lowry, the BBC and the Imperial War Museum buildings. Perfect for after work, he clocked 49:43 in lovely evening sunshine.

Four Red Rosers ventured to the West Lancs Summer Triathlon on Sunday, which consists of a 400m swim, an 18.5k bike ride and a 5k run in and around the campus and surrounding lanes of Edge Hill University. The weather did not in the least bit resemble any aspect of summer and the participants had to endure cold, windy and rainy conditions, but it was a slick and superbly organised event with excellent support from the pool side volunteers and bike/run marshals. Overall results: Lynne Kenyon 1:21:08, Sue Austin 1:35:15, Mike Jeffreys 1:42:42 and Jenny Fairclough 1:42:48. Ben Smithers set himself a big challenge for this Saturday. First a sub 25 minute parkrun at Fleetwood , a sub 4hour track marathon at UCLAN and a sub 50 minute 10k at Blackpool Illuminations. He made it with a 21.54 parkrun, 3hr 44mins at UCLAN and 48.28 at Blackpool.

Matt Holmes was on form at Cuerden Valley to finish in 2nd place with a great time of 19.05 and fast times at Lancaster 3-1-5, were achieved by Steve Moon (21.55) Emily Ingham 22.46 and another sub 24 minute run from Rik Chippendale (23.39).

At the Pilling 10k, Jill Jefferson took first the FV60 prize but more impressively second placed lady in a time of 45.10. Andrew Stell finished in 44.56 and Paula Stell ran 57.40.

Our man in Sweden, Lee Burton proudly flew the Red Rose flag for his small friend Jacob Willett at the Goteborg, Midnattsloppe. His time of 55.25 made him first Red Rose – again!

In the Blackpool Illuminations 5k Michael Oddie ran a time of 22.06 to take the V40 prize and Sam Edwards ran 23.17 to finish as 2nd lady. A great turn out from Red Rose made for a fantastic night.The full 5k and 10k results are on fyldecoastrunners.com.

Another big presence of Red Rose was apparent at the Chipping Show for the very tough 7.5 mile fell race. The latest race on the Red Rose Fell Championship calendar, 20 of the 81 runners were from the club. Kelly White was the sole Rose Rose representative in the Tri-Island Summer Santer Series. She completed 10km races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with closely grouped times of 1:02:51, 1:04:44, and 1:02:06 over trail courses.

The UCLAN Preston Marathon and Half was held over two days on Friday and Saturday covering laps of the cycle track, which on a good day would represent a fast course. Michael Oddie was the sole Red Roser on the Friday, with a PB time of 03:30:14 in the marathon, for 4th place. On the second day, John Naylor finished the marathon in 12th place with 03:53:43, Steve Murphy completed in 04:24:45 for 19th place and late starter Ben Smithers finished in 21st place. In the Saturday half marathon, Michael Coupland finished in 01:50:03 for 16th place. Baz Bayliss was close behind with 01:52:19 for 18th place.
