Stuart Smith was the only Red Rose at Para’s 10 Catterick, taking on the challenging 10 mile off-road route, finishing in a time of 73:00.Two Rosebuds tackled the juniors Para’s 2 event, with Holly Smith finishing in 15:19 (winning the 14-15 female trophy) and Dan Smith marking his return from injury with a time of 15:34.
Scott Jackson took part in the inaugural running of ‘The Lap’ an ultra run around Lake Windermere. He covered 46.25 miles with 7907 feet of ascent. Competitors had 24 hours to circumnavigate England’s largest and most iconic lake, taking in all the best view points on some of the most beautiful trails The Lakes has to offer. THE LAP was born when an old, forgotten map fell out of a stack of guides on the shelf. Full of scribbles and crossings out, this became the blueprint for the race route.
The latest Lakeland Trails event was held in Keswick. Our runners took part in all the races. Susan Beardsworth ran the 5k in 52:04. The 10K was completed byEmily Sinkinson 1:07:40,Angela Dallinger 1:09:18 David Watson 1:19:26 and Steve Bullows 1:41:39.
The 15km Challenge attracted a larger number led by David Bayliss in 1:38:39. The massive Great North Run was expecting 57,000 runners. Red Rose provided 28 of them. Many excellent times were achieved led by Michael Oddie 1.27.13 and Sophie Pilkington 1.38.13. The City of Salford 10k was expecting 2000 runners including those attempting to qualify for the 2020 English Athletics Masters race next year. Joe Swarbrick finished as third V60 achieving a qualifying time of 39.44. Vet 55 Phil Davidson ran 43.29 closely followed by Liam Hooton in 43.50. Joydip Majumder ran 59.11 followed by Pongchai Watcharakhueankhan 67.16 and Julie Longdon 67.58.
The tough off- road Yorkshireman Marathon welcomed Lancashire’s Red Rose team comprising of John Naylor 5.17.29, Rob Mather 5.24.55, Ben Donoghue 6.57.50, Stuart Cann 6.57.52. Wendy and Richard Ward entered as a pair finishing in 6.57.46.
The half marathon event saw a team effort with Margaret Worbey 3.07.22, James Hughes 3.07.25, Simon Worbey 3.07.28, Anneke Crosby 3.07.31 all enjoying the challenging terrain.
A group of four visited Chadderton Hall parkrun. Sam Edwards finished as first female in 23.38. Ben Smithers ran 25.04, becoming a North West regionnaire in the process. Gina Biggs ran 29.23 and Lisa Baron ran 34.27. Ann Cleave visited Pwllheli parkrun finishing in 25.12. PB’s in Preston were achieved by John Wood 21.26, Kerry Dewhirst 25.01, Andrea Jenkins 25.44, Julie Doublett 27.48, Christine Walker 30.58, Caroline Cocker 31.20. At Cuerden Valley Matt Holmes came in first with a PB of 18.28. Steve Murphy 23.47, Garry Li 24.28, Neil Healy 26.27 all ran PB’s.
The Inter Club series came to an exciting finale on Wednesday when Red Rose hosted the event at Worden Park. In this race our team finished third, the Vets were 3rd, the V50 team were 2nd and the V60’s were 3rd. The ladies team was 3rd and the F40’s were 4th. This resulted in the season final positions with Red Rose 3rd overall. The Vets were 3rd, The V50’s were 2nd and V60’s were 2nd. The Ladies team was joint 3rd as were the F40’s.
