The Coniston 14 is a highlight of the race calendar with its challenging hilly course set against fabulous views of the lake and mountains. This year nine of our runners made the journey to take part. Richard Barnes 1.54.45 and Lynne Kenyon 1.57.35 were our first runners with Doug Bryden (2.00.37) just outside the 2 hour mark. Julie Thorley and Lee Burton joined forces and finished together in 2.11.06. Brian Hanley finished in 2.27.38 followed by Alison Dick 2.35.25, Fiona Michelle 2.44.24 and Damian Clapham 2.46.39.
Five ..s took part in the Mother’s Day 10k in Lancaster. Vicky Ardern 44:54 taking her age group prize. Joanne Malcolmson 52.12, Sandra Rolston 62.25, Lucy Turner 65.05, Trish McDonald 70.55. Special mention for Lucy for giving up her race to help an injured runner complete the course.
The Power of 5K hosted by Lancaster and Morecambe AC showed we have some runners in great form. Ciaron Roddy was our best finisher with a time of 16.36. Phil Marsden was the first V45 in 17.05. David Parkinson was first V50 in 17.57. Mike Hall went sub 19 with a time of 18.46. Sophie Pilkington had another great run finishing in 20.12 and Laura Houghton ran well in 23.04.
The Tiger Beetle Trail route is mixed te.ain including trail, sand & mud. This is a measured 10k run around the beautiful Ainsdale Sands National Nature Reserve. This event set runners off in three waves with chip timing deciding prize winners. In Wave One, Ray Taylor was our fastest runner taking the V65 prize in 50.25. Pauline Moorcroft finished in 57.14 followed by Susan Tonge winner of the F60 prize in 58.58 and Joan Gouldthorpe 59.33, F65 winner. Other finishers in Wave One were Alison Parkinson 60.08, Allan Howard 63.13, Denise Mo.is 63.38, Louise Withnell 70.30, Katy Cleece 71.55, Melanie Lowe 71.55, Tracy Woods 82.16. In Wave Two Olivia Wiggans was in 6th position in 47.36 which made her second in her age group and Jo Roberts and Karen Smith finished together in 67.56. John Wiggans ran in the third Wave finishing in 53.45.
Some excellent performances in local parkruns saw Karl Hodgson finish in 18.19, just ahead of Matt Holmes who claimed another PB with his time of 18.34. More PB’s were posted by Stuart Smith 21.08, Stephen Robertson 22.43, Yvonne Johnson 26.36, Wendy Ward 27.28, Natalie Barber 29.42, Holly Smith 31.04.
At the Preston event, .PB’s were achieved by Janine Needham 21.58, Joshua Cartwright 26.06, Julie Doublett 28.22, Pongchai Watcharakhueankhan 31.30 and Sandra Davies 33.36.
The Muddy Bottoms event was well supported by Red Rose. The results show it was a team effort and enjoyed by everyone. A lack of mud was the only downside but the hot refreshments more than compensated.
