The latest Mid Lancs cross country event was held at Townley Park, Burnley. Lexie Colquhoun was our only brave Junior to race in the U 11 girls race finishing in 12.25.

In the 6k women’s race, Nicola Hughes took a top 20 place in a time of 22.31 followed by Anneke Crosby who took first place in L50 category in 24.32. Vicky Ardern was our 3rd runner in 25.13. Joan Gouldthorpe finished in 28.30 to take 2nd place in L65 category.

Simon Croft was our first runner home in the 10k men’s race in 33.24. Frank Nightingale finished in 38.11, Barry Wheeler 39.05 and Simon Shaw 40.49 took 3rd team place in the V50 class.

The Rivington Petzl Night Runner race attracted 17 Red Rose runners. Olivia Wiggans stole the show taking first placed lady in a great time of 59.15. The Garstang 10k always attracts a large field as the New Year gets under way. The ladies team of Jill Jefferson (44.22), Sam Edwards (49.02), Jan Rayton (49.44), and Gail Bristo (50.56) took the second place. Dave Parkinson was close to his best again with a time of 38.47 to take the V50 prize. Karl Hodgson was 14th in 39.05 with Joe Finch also highly placed. The Red Rose ladies often dominate the Vet places. And our winners here were Jill Jefferson taking the F60 prize, Joan Gouldthorpe won the L65 prize (54.17) and Carol Douglass L70 (52.56). The small fields at the Lancaster 3-1-5 races saw Jo Roberts complete the 10k race in 58.39 to take first F50 and Lesley Renshaw second F50. Karen Smith was first F40 in 62.49. In the 5k race Kate Clipston ‘smashed’ 27 minutes with a time of 26.48. Steve Taylor 28.31 and Mary Conway 28.42 all taking first in their age groups.

Runners were met with muddy conditions at the worthy East Lance Hospice 10k. Alison Mercer ran 57.55 followed by Anthony Pope 64.16, Colin Manning 70.26 and Steve Bullows 75.01.
