At the penultimate race in the Mid Lancs competition Red Rose Runners made the journey to Barrow. After the freezing weather during the previous week the conditions were surprisingly soft and ‘claggy’. In the ladies race Clare Bunce gave a well paced performance coming 10th in 22.34 with Debbie Kirkman next in 24.26. Paula Plowman completed the A team in 25.07. Julie Palmer, Sal Cape and Gill Allen made up the ‘B’ team finishers. Completing a strong turnout, Karen Clark, Sue Harrison and Janet Saynor made it nine finishers out of a field of 48.
In the men’s race John Shepherd put his marathon training to good use coming 55th in 36.22 with Ken Addison closing the gap in the later stages of the race finishing in 36.45. Third and fourth for the club were Joe Swarbrick and Phil Butler. The Vet 40 team did well to claim 5th place out of 15. Barry Wheeler finished in 41 minutes followed by the improving Ben Donoghue in 41.23. Stuart Cann and Chris Clark completed the line up with times of 42.59, and 55.29.
Red Rose will be in action again this weekend at the re arranged Winter Warmer at Witton Park, Blackburn and Golden Peal Weston Scar fell race.
