Eight Red Rose Road Runners ran in the 3rd of the series of 4 Harrock Hill fell runs. Ken Addison was 1stV55 in 38:15 followed by Paul Woan, continuing to improve through the series, in a time of 40:12. John Shepherd, on the back of a heavy racing programme,had a slightly disappointing run with a time of 40:22. Alison John-Haslam was 1st lady V40 in 44:26 and was thrilled to pick up the box of fruit and veg on offer to all the winners. Other runners were Shane Cliffe 40:54, Peter Bolton 44:01, Paula Plowman 49:41 and Emma Cowie Shaw who was still smiling at the end of her first run on the fells in a time of 59:24.

In the series, the best 3 scores to count, Ken Addison has sealed the V55 category with his 3rd win. In a highly competitive V45 age group John Shepherd is 2nd, only 1 point behind the leader Andrew Hudson from Southport and Waterloo, but any one of half a dozen runners can still win with a good run in the last event at the end of the month.

Runners from the club went in opposite directions to run races of 10 miles this weekend. With many people on holiday fewer runners attended the two popular races. At Wythenshawe Park nine ‘Rosers’ ran the flat four lap course in slightly blustery conditions. Joe Swarbrick ran 61:40 in 38th place and 2nd V55 with Phil Butler finishing in 65:50. Dave Hooton was 5th V55 in 68:47. Barry Wheeler ran a new PBin 72:49 just ahead of Dave Earnshaw. Debbie Kirkman was pleased with 2nd placed L40 in a time of 75:57 whilst Paula Plowman took two minutes off her PB with a time of 80:31. Alan Howard and Arthur Green completed the club line up with times of 84:01 and 98:24.

At the Wagon and Horses 10 mile in Lancaster Ken Addison comfortably won the V55 prize in a time of 63:55 in 14th place. The course covered road and trail with some long steady undulations and Lee Bennett and John Hunter running their first race for Red Rose ran encouraging times of 77:00 and 88:02. Caroline Devaney ran the tough course in 88:13.

In the final Badger Run at Cuerden Valley held last Thursday John Shepherd took the first V45 prize, in 8th place, narrowly beating Joe Swarbrick with a time of 40:32. Ken Addison followed less than a minute later in 41:27. Paul Woan continued his good form finishing in 42:11. New to the event, Richard Crompton tackled the tough course finishing in 50:44. Paula Plowman ran her best time for this course in 53:06 and Joan Gouldthorpe took the first LV60 prize in 53:33.
