Last weekend saw at least 30 Red Rose Road Runners in action on the local roads as 2 of the regions top races took place. Saturday was the Wesham 10k now well over 30 years old, which continues to attract a top quality field.

12 RRRR’s  chose this race. First home in the red vest was Simon Houghton 120th 42.33. Joe Duffy and Pete Gibson finished together in 172nd and 173rd with 46.53 and 46.54. 2 ladies followed close together Debbie Porter 235th 49.55 and 1st V65 Carol Douglas 238th 49.59.  Other finishers were James Robinson 258th 51.10, George Fletcher 268th 51.50, Joan Gouldthorpe 271st 52.05, Debbie Porter 283rd 52.53, Adele Nuttall 332nd 58.39, Colin Manning 333rd 58.46 and new member Andrew Ashcroft 356th 68.45.

On Sunday it was the Guys 10 which also attracts a good field as there is an opportunity to set a good time here. 17 clubs members opted for this race, maybe the cheese round given to all finishers played a part in attracting so many?

V55 Ken Addison was first club runner back in 36th 63.52 with Jose Pinon Shaw less than a minute back 42nd 64.45. Mark Billington and Steve Gore both ran an excellent 68.43 in 66th and 67th places. Jill Jefferson continues to dominate the local road running scene in the lady V55 category, again winning that group with a great time 70.18 for 79th. Debbie Kirkman was not too far behind 88th 71.02.

Other finishers were Phil Butler 122nd 74.12, Cliff Utting 131st 75.02, Janine Needham 134th 75.42, Margaret Lupton 172nd 78.24, Richard Lodge 200th 82.03, Bev Hewitson 296th 95.21, Joanne Malcomson 306th 97.20, Wendy Ward 314th 100.10, Karen and Chris Clark 318th, 319th 101.26, 101.27, and Amiee Midgley 335th 107.05.

The club sessions on Tuesday and Thursday nights are proving popular and this is certainly reflected in some of the above results.

Also running on Sunday was Shane Cliffe in the Lancaster Marathon as he continues his build up to the Brathay 10 in 10 challenge. Shane once again ran an excellent race with a time of around 3.30.

Mention must also be made of the Cross Country at Liverpool the previous weekend. The club had a good turn out and a special mention must go to our junior runners taking part. Although this was a Mid Lancs race it was also part of a much bigger event including selection for the English team for the European XC Championships so many top XC runners were there.
