To start the week of racing, Red Rose Road runners hosted the final Inter-Club race at Worden Park. Red Rose fielded a large team of marshals, race organisers and buffet supervisors. The times for those who ran are shown below:

Saturday 8th September

Pauline Moorcroft completed her first marathon in style. The Marathon du Médoc in France’s Bordeaux region combines running, fancy dress and a lot of wine stops. Pauline completed in the maximum time possible to take full advantage of the atmosphere… and wine! You can read more about the event at the below link:

Sunday 9th September

The Great North Run is the 15th largest mass participation running event in the world and the UK’s biggest with 57,000 entrants this year. Michael Oddie led the Red Rose road runners home on the point-to-point half marathon course in a very respectable 01:33:20, which was a new PB for him. Not too far bahind was Scott Jackson with 01:37:34. Other finishers from the club were:

The Yorkshireman Marathon and Half are CL category fell races on the FRA calendar. Partially marked, you still have to keep your wits about you to stay on course and not fall into a brook, or fall foul of many other hazards along the way. Taking up the full marathon challenge this year was Gary Corcoran (05:01:18), followed by Stuart Cann (05:35:11), Paula Plowman (05:35:11) and Ben Donoghue (05:35:14) running together. Julie Thorley and Anneke Crosby took on the half marathon, completing in 03:17:24 and 03:17:26 respectively.

In the Ribble Way 10K, there was a strong Red Rose showing, with the Red Rose ladies thoroughly dominating the field. Sarah Chippendale finished 11th overall and was 1st lady in a time of 46:33. Not too far behind was Jill Jefferson in 15th overall, 2nd Lady and 1st FV60 with 47:47. Janine Needham completed the perfect team-of-three finish in 17th place, 3rd Lady and 1st FV40 with a time of 48:22. Other Red Rose finishers were:

In the Ribble Way Half Marathon race, Ann Cleave was the first Red Rose finisher in 2:07:27. John Carruthers 2:12:39, John Suffield 2:13:50, Wayne Hope 2:18:15, Mike Jeffreyes 2:27:29, Emily Atkinson 2:29:19, Pita Oates 2:35:44, Michelle Round 2:39:31, Gareth Fairey 2:51:44, Andrea Davison and Katie Johnson 3:01:06 made up the rest of the Red Rose finishers.

Dave Raynor, Stephen Ormson and Jenny Fairclough participated in the Fleetwood Sprint triathlon in 20mph wind speed! This comprised a 400m swim, 20k bike ride and a 5k run. Janet Tolson was also on the start list too. [RESULTS TO BE ADDED AS THEY ARE RECEIVED].

In the UKFast City of Salford 10K, Steve Bullows completed in 1:03:55 and Ian Bruce got round in 1:35:15.

At the Wigan 10k, Samantha Edwards continued her strong run of form with a PB time of 46:16, to be the first Red Rose home. Also running were: Julie Bentham 1:09:38, Caroline Houston 1:09:39 and Toshif Vally 1:11:15.

At Delamere Forest, 9 Red Rose members took part in the Montaine Trail 13 Delamere race, a scenic and undulating trail run. Dan Hughes finished 3rd overall with an impressive time of 1:24:28. To complete the fastest couple in Red Rose, Nicola Hughes finished 3rd female with a time of 1:46:06. Andy Birkbeck – 1:42:21, Iain Mitchell – 1:59:35, Lorna Taylor – 2:08:53, Lynn Melvin – 2:08:58, Bernie Mitchell 2:20:48, Sarah Haslam 2:29:31 and Sharon Birkbeck – 2:40:47 made up the rest of the group.

 

The Dartmoor Volcano race is a 10.25 mile trail race, with almost 500 metres of ascent. It’s not a ‘walk in the park’, it’s a tough ten miles over Dartmoor. Visiting the high points of Pupers Hill, Snowdon, and South Dartmoor’s highest point – Ryders Hill. Liv and John Wiggans completed this race with times of 1:46:41 and 2:03:02.
